It took me a while to get back to the trail. I am still not 100%, but delaying getting back was going to be worse in the long run (for me at least) than waiting for my body to cooperate. I ventured out alone today… probably not the smartest decision…
I chose a trail I had never been on, talked to anyone about, read from someone’s personal experience about and I likely will not go back to finish it. The trail was rocky, like loose rock which caused me to lose my footing on several occasions. Some areas of the trail were narrow with steep drops to one side. I was scared at times. However, I am glad I attempted this trail.
The trail led me up above the tree line and had it been a clear day I am told, I would have been able to see France! 🇫🇷 I have not been on a trail like this in Switzerland. It reminded me of the Appalachian Trail in the Eastern United States… rocky, steep, dangerous… that was my thought as I wandered in and out of the forests and fields of this trail. And although I was terrified for much of the hike, I am proud of myself for going out and trying.
Some of my unhappy parts of the adventure were the delays in transportation. I always stress about having a connection, so when a delay happens (which is often in my experience), I am stressed that I will miss my connecting transport. Although it was close today… I made it to my connecting train with a minute to spare. I prefer a 6-minute wait between trains, but sometimes I have to « suck it up, Buttercup! »
So where did I go? I went to a region called Wasserfallen. I heard the waterfall as I hiked, but I did not see it. I did get a glimpse of it from the gondola ride up to my starting point… so that was nice. I hiked a little over 8 km (about 5 miles) and climbed over 300 meters (about 1,000 feet). The weather was cool, a little drizzly, and perfect for someone of my abilities. I felt I was able to focus on myself and my health with every step I took… especially on the up and down portions of the trail.
All in all, I am proud of myself for having the courage to try. I did not complete the trail, but I did prove to myself that I am still a hiker in Switzerland. 🇨🇭
Until next time…
